This post is mainly a list for myself of upcoming exhibit opportunities that I may pursue. I will be updating it periodically as I become aware of others to add to the list.
Abstract Attractions - The Crofoot, Pontiac MI - January 15, 2016. This is an exhibit/event being developed by a friend of my daughter's. I have been invited to participate, 2 pieces per artist. Not sure if it's a one-day exhibit/event, or if the Jan. 15 date is an opening event and the art stays up longer? Details are still emerging. I dug out some of my abstract paintings in order to select two to submit. Couldn't decide so I let my daughter pick.
(Side note: The Crofoot is an interesting venue. Mainly a concert hall, but also available for rent for special events. My daughter got married there 2 years ago.)
UPDATE: There is now a facebook page explaining the event .... sounds like I might feel a bit out of place there ... will talk to Angela and figure out if I should even attend.
LOV Art Show - at Lyrics On Vinyl, Pontiac, February 12, 2016. Deadline to enter is February 5th; the theme is "love" . This is the same venue where my daughter held the City Pride exhibit I was involved in last year, a record store owned by her friend. This is another exhibit/event organized by my daughter.
Women International Art Exhibit - deadline to enter is February 5, 2016. A different theme is presented each year. For last year's "mentors" theme I exhibited my Winter Dirndl portrait of my mother. It was a lovely exhibit but my overall experience was not great. There was no contract, the organizers were not very responsive to questions, the gallery was in a not-great neighborhood, and I was concerned about security. In the end it all turned out fine though.
This year the exhibit will be at a different venue, North End Studios where my daughter previously interned so at least I don't feel like they are total strangers. The theme this year is “Presidents and CEOs.” I have no idea what I would create for this theme, but there's still time to think about it.
Venus Rising (4th annual) - Tangent Gallery, Detroit - deadline to enter is February 15, 2016. For "women painters, sculptors, performance artists, DIYers, poets, crafters, vendors, body painters, and everyone else in between who might be interested in displaying their art in our exhibition." Any subject matter; $10 entry fee; 20% commission. Sounds like a good one.
All-area Juried Show at Studio 23 in Saginaw - deadline to enter is August 1, 2016. Plenty of time but I wanted to be sure to get this on the list so I don't lose the link.
DaVinci's Salon and Gallery in Ann Arbor - ongoing. I would probably want to have a group of work with a cohesive them to present if/when I try for this. Something to think about.
Lansing Art Gallery - eek! 50%commission? Never mind. This one goes on the list just as a reminder to ignore further artist calls from them ... unless I get famous and start selling my work for $$ thousands.
more to come ....
