A couple weeks ago I went on a little painting tangent - during what was supposed to be a "break" from painting to focus on other things. I didn't intend to end up with three paintings. But I did. And here they are. I think I'm done now and ready to get back to those other things I was supposed to be focusing on. Although ... there is a fourth Garden Girl rolling around in my head ....
For now this is it though. Here are Ivy, Rose, and Violet. Possibly to be joined by Daisy at a later date. See Portrait and Figurative Art portfolio page for larger views.

I couldn't stay away from the paints for very long. I did manage to knock out a few small sewing projects: finished the binding on a quilt (long overdue), and made a multi-pocketed tote bag and a simple little purse. Then I realized the new tote back turned out just a little smaller than my old one so I started another one ... when the art withdrawals started. I tried to get my fix with a couple small doodle-art pieces, then went back to work on Tote #2. And then I realized one piece of the lining was sewn in backwards .... ugh ... do I leave it or take it apart and fix it?
At this point, I JUST NEEDED TO SLOP SOME PAINT AROUND. So I did. Grabbed my remaining blank canvas panel, and 2 tubes of paint that really needed to get used up before they dry out (a green and a yellow), and commenced to swirling them about on the canvas. As often happens, an image began to emerge .... a curled up female figure ... so I began to define the shape ... 2 days later, I named her "Ivy." Every painting seems to spur other ideas, and I quickly decided Ivy needed a friend or two. Which of course meant I had to buy more canvases. Currently "Rose" is in progress, and when I finish her I will create "Violet." Unless I take another break and finish sewing the tote bag first. |
